2021 -  THE   TIME   IS   NOW!

Within any sport, creating a solid foundation is imperative to minimising the risk of injury and maximising optimal performance and longevity for any athlete. Now is the time to prepare for the increased demands of work, by building the body, mobilising the joints, strengthening the power house, consciously activating both the core and glutes, and really starting to make connections with the synapses in our brain.

Muscle memory is a crucial component for enhancing athletic performance, coupled with the right mental conditioning to keep you in the best head space to make good decisions, are only a few of the aspects of training that will be addressed in our program.

If you are really looking to maximise the next few months before Christmas kicks in, then now is the time to jump on board and be a part of our family of adolescent athletes; Relentless, Organic, Goal orientated, United and always striving for Excellence.

The first element these athletes need to be successful is DISCIPLINE.

This is something that I feel most parents struggle with, especially during the years of adolescence.  The onset of Puberty can challenge our growing athletes, both positively and negatively.  Bodily changes, hormonal imbalances and rapid mood swings are only a few of the 'delightful' things we as parents have to deal with. Thankfully, Discipline is something we teach here at Rogue Conditioning.

In this context, “discipline” can be viewed as the practice of training oneself to obey rules and guidelines, following through with commitments and challenging oneself to stay true to their goals and aspirations.  Furthermore, it is participating in activity that provides both mental and physical training.  The great thing about group training, in particular strength and conditioning training, is that it allows our athletes to learn the skill of being disciplined, in a fun, safe, caring and non-threatening environment with people of their own age, and mentors who genuinely care for their physical and mental growth and well-being.

The second element a young athlete needs is CONFIDENCE.

The great thing about confidence, is it is not something you are just born with.  So if you don't have it now - do  not despair! It is never too late! It takes time to grow and develop.

Confidence is built on choices and accomplishments.   The concept of self-confidence is commonly used as self-assurance in one's personal judgment, ability, power, etc. One increases self-confidence from experiences of having mastered particular activities.  This includes not only those larger goals/aspirations,  but even just the smallest achievements can build towards creating a confident person and athlete.

Confidence, in all it's aspects, is a valuable possession... as by it's use, great achievements become possible, in all walks of life - and lifting.

Long term athletic development is habitual development to improve health and  fitness, enhance physical performance, reduce injury and develop the confidence and competence of all youth.

The final element that most athletes need to live by, on and off the court/field/pool/turf/track etc is having a GROWTH MINDSET.

People with a growth mindset believe that intelligence can be developed, that the brain is like a muscle that can be trained, which in turn leads to the desire to improve.  Consequently, those with this belief embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, see effort as the path to mastery, learn from criticism and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others.

Alternatively, people with a fixed mindset hold the belief that intelligence is static and 'they are the way they are'.  This in turn leads to a desire to look smart and a tendency to avoid challenges, give up easily, see effort as pointless, ignore useful negative feedback and feel threatened by the success of others.  As a result, they may plateau early and achieve less than their full potential.

The good news however, is that it IS possible to change your view from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.  Research by Carol Dweck indicates that both children and adults can be taught to change their mindset.

Of course, most people do not have a 100% fixed or 100% growth mindset, but instead a combination of both.  However, we all can and should make the positive shift toward having more of a growth mindset.   The more we can accept that making mistakes is a part of learning and growth, acknowledge criticism as a source of information to change or improve and have the belief that all our challenges will help us come out stronger on the other side... the closer we will come to reaching our full potential.
